How To Reset A Worcester Boiler

If you’ve encountered a fault, lockout, or any unexpected interruption in the functioning of your Worcester boiler, knowing how to perform a reset can be invaluable. Understanding the resetting process can help you quickly restore your boiler to normal operation for reliable heating and hot water in no time. Here’s our quick and handy guide to reset a Worcester boiler system.

When should I reset a Worcester boiler?

If your Worcester Bosch boiler isn’t functioning as expected and encounters a fault, you’ll see a blue flashing light on the boiler’s control panel. This is a sure sign it might be time for a reset.

Here are some common reasons of when a boiler reset is needed:

Boiler lockout

If the boiler experiences a fault, it may go into a lockout state, where it shuts down to prevent further damage.

Pressure loss

Some Worcester boilers may require a reset after repressurizing the system following a pressure loss, especially in combi boilers.

Thermostat issues

In situations where the thermostat is not communicating effectively with the boiler, a reset may be necessary to establish proper communication.

Power interruptions

After a power outage or interruption, the boiler may need to be reset to resume normal functioning.

How to reset a Worcester boiler

Resetting your boiler is usually a straightforward process. The reset button or central heating temperature knob is typically found on the front of your boiler but if you can’t find it, give us a call or refer to the manual.

You will either need to:

Turn the thermostat dial or knob anticlockwise to the ‘reset’ position or reset light and hold for 3-5 seconds, then turn the knob back to its original setting, or:

Hold the ‘reset’ button down for 3-5 seconds. Holding the button down for a few seconds is important, as it is designed to avoid accidental knocks or touches.

After a reset, the mains indicator will stop flashing and the boiler will function normally depending on your room thermostat settings.

While a boiler reset can often resolve minor issues such as temporary faults or lockouts, it may not address underlying or more complex problems. In some cases, the need for frequent resets could indicate an underlying issue that requires professional attention.

Always refer to the manufacturer’s manual for your specific Worcester boiler model, as the resetting process may vary slightly across different models.

Maintaining your Worcester boiler

Keep your boiler running smoothly and prevent potential problems by scheduling an annual Worcester Bosch heating system service. This essential maintenance check will identify and address any issues before they escalate, minimising risk and ensuring safe operation.

Remember, if you’re unsure about the resetting process or the cause of the fault, it’s best to seek professional assistance from a gas safe registered engineer or the boiler manufacturer’s support team.
